Cigna and St. Luke’s Health

Cigna is working for you

St. Luke’s Health will be out-of-network starting October 30.

What is the issue?

Cigna has been trying to keep St. Luke’s Health (including Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and St. Joseph Health) in our provider network. We work hard to keep your health care affordable, and that’s what we tried to do here.

  • St. Luke’s Health continues to demand unreasonable rate increases and has been unwilling to discuss realistic solutions. As a result, St. Luke’s Health will leave our network as of October 30, 2021.
  • The problem is their price. Bottom line, St. Luke’s wants you to pay more than what is normal in South Texas. Health care already costs too much and St. Luke’s is trying to make it even more expensive.
  • Who actually pays St. Luke’s bills? For the most part, local employers, individuals and taxpayers do. They all deserve to have affordable pricing.

What happens next?

  • We would welcome St. Luke’s to stay in our provider network – but only on fair terms that ensure local access to care at an affordable cost now and in the future.
  • Because St. Luke’s won’t agree to affordable rates, they will leave our network as of October 30, 2021. That will affect the 31,000 Cigna customers who have used St. Luke’s in the past 18 months, and thousands more who will need care in the future.
  • We can help guide you to quality in-network alternatives for your care so you can avoid surprise bills from out-of-network providers.
